Music video Analysis
The music video I have chosen to analyse is 'Mura Masa - Love$ick ft A$AP Rocky'.
Introduction
Alex Crossan (born 5 April 1996), better known by the stage name Mura Masa is a British electronic music producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Guernsey in the channel islands . At the age of 17 he uploaded his first tracks, remixes and bootlegs to sound cloud.
This is the music video.
Mise-En-Scene
- There is a clear distinction in the costumes of the characters, it is a very urban style, including hoodies, jackets, and branded clothing.
- You can see the character at the beginning wearing 'Nike' gloves and this then leads on to the clip of the three main characters wearing product placement of the exact same 'Nike' bag.
- The colour design is a very basic, using real colours and is simplistic.
- Location was a typical London suburb which relates to the lyrics with A$AP describing
- The beginning of the music video begins with self recorded, first person clips of two young youths, this seems to be filmed on an app such as Snapchat due to its 10 second shortness of the clip.
- A birds eye view of the characters and the location, this is too emphasise the suburban area and where the characters have likely grown up within.

- This shot is changed into a more professional pan shot of the three main characters within the music video.
- The use of drones to get landscape and scenery shots are used, this is a modern camera use.
Sound
- It incorporates an electronic/house beat and bass is minor however partly through the song it includes rapping from the well known artist 'A$AP Rocky'.
- There is no syncing to the music lyrics during the video, however there is a scene at the beginning and end which is just first person recording of the characters. Here you can hear the use of slang saying words like '10 toes' this emphasise the youth / hood culture.
Editing
- The quick cuts at the end while the party scene is on shows a stereotypical party within teenagers. It shows a lot of smoking, underage drinking and even scenes of drug use (cannabis)
- It highlights a teenagers lifestyle to be a fast speed, having fun and socialising.
