Construction Post: Title Font/Colour

Because of our past feedback about our title at the beginning of our music video, we still didn't think people liked the font and colour. So, we made a selection of titles with a range of colours and font types and went around and asked a number of people which one they liked best. Here were our options:

In conclusion, people liked the fifth title best, because it links with our rough cut of our DigiPak. Therefore, we will be using this font and colour for our Final Cut.

Construction Post: Final Cut

We made a few little changes like:
- Precise editing and synchronising every word
- Before uploading it onto our school system, we had to censor the swear word 'fucked' in order to meet school regulations.
- Changing the text: we made the 'DEAR LANA' title a more faded red for a less violent and more dramatic effect. We also removed the Japanese writing as after audience feedback, it didn't really mean anything to people or have relevance to our song.

This is our final cut.

Construction Post: Feedback to First Cut

We have finished editing our rough cut and we now have our first cut. These are the changes we made:

  • The title colour - we experimented with red and pink.
  • The 'blurry' scene of the protagonist holding his phone - we added a cutaway which is ideally a flashback of his life, in order to get the audience distracted from the blur but instead focus on the narrative of the music video.
  • The ending - we ended the music video to the protagonist dying, instead of restarting.
  • The protagonist walking down the stairs - one of our feedback of the footage being 'too long', we added a precision editing to keep the audience entertained.

So, we then showed a small audience our cut and filmed their feedback too (Preferably skip to 23 seconds)

Feedback received:

  • Overall good feedback of first cut - they liked the editing and thought the lip miming was in sync, the camera angles and the narrative and artist of our music video.
  • The font colour is still an issue as different audiences have liked different colours - red or yellow base. We will be considering the feedback on them and play around with a range of different colours to see which suits it best (perhaps create a variety and ask an audience to choose which colour/s they think are the best).

Construction Post: First Cut

This is our Final Cut. We made a few changes from our First Cut such as:
- Extra precision editing at 2:07-2:10
- Different transition at 2:19-2:20

What we need to do:
- There are a few shots unsynchronised, e.g at 0:58, as it is slightly too slow.
- Remove the Japanese writing with the title at the beginning and the colour of the font may still not be the suitable colour.

Construction Post: Rough Cut - Feedback

We have made a rough cut and showed an audience for feedback. Here is the video.

We also interviewed one person.

Feedback received:

  • The first person view footage of protagonist looking at his phone is focused which doesn't make sense because our visual isn't blurry in real life - so what we're going to do is try make it less prominent that the background is unfocused by adding a cutaway to shorten the blurriness.
  • The ending shouldn't restart back to the beginning but instead just end with the protagonists' eyes closed and dead - we will consider this against our current ending of the life cycle of the protagonists' life restarting as we believe it emphasises the repetitive cycle of people who live this life.
  • The colour of the title at the beginning should be changed - it is currently yellow with a hint of red and we received feedback that it should be a different colour. We will think about what colour it should be and see what is the most suitable against the black and white visuals.
  • The protagonist walking down the stairs - it is too long. We will shorten this in a creative way, such as precision editing.

Construction Post: Rough Cut

What we did different:
- Added precision editing (1:02-1:07) to add some excitement as it is quite a long shot.
- The timing of shots, some shots are now longer and some are shorter.

What we need to do:
- The ending should be a cut instead of a fade.
- Change the font colour
